TRUCK ACCIDENTS

Hurt in a truck accident? Here’s how your care gets paid

A crash with a semi, box truck, delivery van or work truck is still a Florida car accident. The same 14-day deadline applies, and your own PIP usually pays for your first visits. If you’re seriously hurt, go to the emergency room first.

Your own PIP pays first

Florida is a no-fault state, so your own PIP covers your medical bills first — even if the truck driver caused the crash. No car of your own? PIP from a relative you live with may cover you.

PIP pays 80% of reasonable medical bills. You may qualify for up to $10,000 if a licensed medical provider determines you have an emergency medical condition (EMC); otherwise benefits may be limited to $2,500. What an EMC evaluation is.

The trucking company’s insurance

Commercial trucks carry their own liability insurance, which can matter if your costs go beyond what PIP covers. Claims against a trucking company are a legal matter. You don’t need a lawyer to start treatment, and if you hire one later, we’ll work with them.

Why truck crashes hurt more

A loaded truck can weigh many times more than a car, so even a low-speed crash can strain your neck and back. We treat whiplash and neck pain, back injuries, shoulder and knee pain, and headaches after a crash, with physical therapy and chiropractic care in one place.

The 14-day clock still runs

Florida PIP pays only if your first medical visit happens within 14 days of the crash. That’s 14 calendar days, not business days. Don’t wait to see how you feel. How the 14-day rule works.
